In order to take part in Le Mans 24 hours of 1971, Porsche realized, in collaboration with the French company Sera, the 917/20 which was a compromise between the short tail and long tail versions to get the advantages of the side outline of the short tail and the aerodynamic ones of the long tail. Moreover, this experimental car served as a laboratory for the Can-am versions that Porsche was making. The body of this model had a very particular line with widened wheel arches stucking out the wheels and was painted pink with some pork parts drawn on it (hence the nickname "pink pig"). The 917/20 won the 3 hour-race during the tests of Le Mans and behaved very well in the 24 hours where it was forced to withdraw from the race because Joest went off the road.
