Built in 1970 only for racing on slower circuits (Targa
Florio and Nürburgring), as it was lighter and more manageable than the 917, this 908.03 of the Gulf stable raced the Targa Florio of 1971 and was force to withdraw from it due to an accident. It was driven by Pedro Rodriguez and Herbert Müller. This car was equipped with a tubular chassis, featured a 2,997 cm³ 8-cylinder engine that developed 350 hp and weighed only 565 kg. The 1971 version aesthetically differed from the 1970 version because it had 2 fins on its rear bonnet.
