After his triumphal records set by the 750 record Bertone in June 1956 Abarth decided to exploit the moment of fame and set new records in Class I (special cars from 350 to 500 cm³). For this purpose he equipped his 750 record with a new engine derived from the Fiat 600 and reduced to the engine capacity of 495,8 cm³ which developed 30 hp and repainted the body yellow and silver. The car retained the characteristics of the 750 version while keeping the 3-speed to reduce friction and the brakes only on the front wheels to reduce weight. With the pilots Remo Cattini, Mario Poltronieri, Alfonso Thiele, Giancarlo Fraccari and Albero della Beffa it was able to set records in 2000 km races (average speed 139,978 kph), in 2000 miles races (average speed 137,771 kph ) and in 24 hours races (average speed 137,948 kph).
