In 1961 the Simca entered into an agreement with Abarth to work out their Simca 1000 sedan and build a sports sedan 1300 cm³ with chassis, gearbox and suspension derived from the Simca 1000, with an engine built from scratch by Abarth that was the starting point for all the following Sports Cars of Turin. So the Abarth Simca 1300 GT was produced, that was presented at the Geneva Motor Show 1962. The body, made by Beccaris, drew on the lines of the 1000 Bialbero but with a longer tail, a smaller rear window and a larger number of slots (30) on the bonnet. The car weighed 630 kg and with an engine that developed 127 hp could reach 230 kph. In competitions it was immediately the car to beat in its category and achieved a number of successes. The Abarth Simca 1300 GT came out of the list at the end of 1965 due to non-renewal of the agreement with the Simca.
